The Biogas Register is aimed at persons who produce, trade or consume upgraded biogas, so-called biomethane, which is fed into the natural gas grid.
The Biogas Register Germany documents evidence of the use of biogas, in particular for:
- Electricity and heat production (EEG)
- Heat production (EEWärmeG)
As a neutral stakeholder, the German Energy Agency (dena) operates the Biogas Register and provides a system for certifying and tracking biomethane from production to consumption.
Biogas Register background
The German Energy Agency (dena) developed the concept for the Biogas Register Germany in 2009 with the support of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and in dialogue with market participants and experts from politics and industry.
Since then, dena has been operating the Biogas Register Germany as the register management.
control circuit
The realisation of the Biogas Register started in spring 2010 and was supported by 14 leading companies from the biogas and energy sector. These companies formed the control circuit of the biogas register.
